PDBest is a freely available platform for manipulating, filtering and normalizing biomolecules in Protein Data Bank (PDB) and mmCIF structure files, developed by the Bioinformatics and System Laboratory (LBS) at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil.
PDBest aims to help researchers and students to manipulate and treat PDB files in a
high-throughput fashion in order to garantee high quality data for posteior analyses.
It has a user-friendly graphical user interface developed to allows even users with no computing
background to download and manipulate theirs PDB files without using command line.
Among its several features, PDBEst is able to identify and correct formatting errors or inconsistencies,
adding hydrogens as well as comprehensively filtering/selecting subsets of atoms, residues or chains.
PDBest is also capable of downloading files directly from the RCSB PDB Database mirror given a set of user-defined
searching criteria. Files can also be processed from a local repository.
Sections can be saved in PDBest, while allows users to easily share PDB searching and filtering protocols,
improving reproductibility of the analyses carried out subsequently.
The software platform was developed in C++ language on the QT framework, providing
high performance for all major operating systems: Windows, Unix/Linux, and Mac OS X.
